Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2026 kicked off with a celebration of Malaysian heritage as Suria KLCC presented RR by Rizman Ruzaini for the official opening show of its 14th edition.
Held at the Esplanade, KLCC Park on 3 August, the show welcomed around 500 guests and introduced the label’s Cruise 2026 collection, RR Vol 4: Heritage in Motion.
This year’s KLFW carries the theme Destination: Home Ground, putting Malaysian identity, creativity and homegrown fashion talent firmly in the spotlight.
Malaysian Heritage Takes Centre Stage
Heritage in Motion looked to Malaysia’s nostalgic streets and modes of travel for inspiration. Trishaws, bicycle gears and vintage travel elements were incorporated into the presentation while being reinterpreted through RR’s contemporary design language.
The collection was presented on an all-white, hourglass-shaped runway inside KLFW’s redesigned show hall. Its monochromatic structure drew inspiration from archival batik prints from Yayasan Sabah, creating another connection between traditional Malaysian culture and modern design.
Shoppers at Suria KLCC were also able to follow the opening show through a live broadcast on a large LED screen, bringing the runway experience beyond the invited audience.
A Major Moment for RR by Rizman Ruzaini
Opening KLFW marked another milestone for designers Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Wan Jamil, who have spent almost two decades building their presence in Malaysia’s fashion industry.
The achievement follows the opening of the RR label’s first boutique at Suria KLCC in 2025. For the founders, establishing a physical presence at one of Kuala Lumpur’s most recognised retail destinations represented an important step in strengthening the homegrown label.
Rizman said having a space at Suria KLCC also carries an element of brand trust, making the opportunity to open KLFW an important continuation of the partnership.
More Than 50 Malaysian Designers Join KLFW 2026

KLFW 2026 ran from 3 to 9 August at the Esplanade, KLCC Park, bringing together more than 50 Malaysian designers and labels.
The programme included emerging designers, established fashion names and collaborations across different industries, giving local creatives a platform to reach wider audiences.
Activities also extended into Suria KLCC. These included styling displays by fashion students at Isetan KLCC and the Jom Malaysia pop-up curated by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
Malaysian Fashion Meets Visit Malaysia 2026
This year’s KLFW also carries wider significance as Malaysia prepares to welcome more international visitors under Visit Malaysia 2026.
KPDN supported the event as Principal Industry Strategic Partner, while Suria KLCC and KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd collaborated on the fashion week.
For Suria KLCC, giving Malaysian labels visibility alongside international luxury names can help strengthen the country’s fashion identity while showing visitors the depth of local creative talent.
As Suria KLCC Executive Director and CEO Francis Tan noted, local brands bring something international labels cannot replicate: Malaysia’s own heritage and identity.
Putting Homegrown Creativity on a Bigger Stage

The opening of KLFW 2026 showed how traditional influences can remain relevant when designers are given room to reinterpret them.
For RR by Rizman Ruzaini, Heritage in Motion transformed familiar Malaysian imagery into a contemporary fashion experience. For KLFW, it offered a fitting start to a week focused on returning to homegrown roots.
With more Malaysian designers gaining visibility at major retail and lifestyle destinations, platforms such as KLFW can also help local fashion businesses build stronger recognition at home while creating opportunities to reach audiences beyond Malaysia.
