Ryan Gimbang - Columnist, Roots & Routes

Ryan grew up in Penampang, studied history, and spent eight years guiding visitors through Sabah's markets, longhouses and old towns. Then he decided to see the rest of the country himself, and has since eaten his way through all 13 states, usually on a budget and often by asking the nearest uncle where he eats. Roots & Routes is his guide to hawker stalls, heritage streets, festivals and the craftspeople keeping old traditions alive, from Kelantan to Kudat. He is based in Kota Kinabalu.
