A familiar Malaysian coffee ritual is getting a fresh place in Putrajaya’s hospitality scene. Palm Garden Hotel Putrajaya has named Oriental Kopi as the coffee partner for its daily Kopi Dulu experience, bringing the local brand into a tradition built around coffee, food and conversation.
Announced in conjunction with Malaysia Day, the Palm Garden Hotel Oriental Kopi collaboration puts the focus on something simple: the role that kopi continues to play in Malaysian social life. Rather than treating local culture as something reserved for special occasions, the hotel is making it part of the everyday guest experience.
A Malaysian Ritual at the Heart of the Hotel
Kopi Dulu takes place every day from 3.30pm to 5.30pm at the Courtyard of Palm Garden Hotel Putrajaya. Guests can sit down for coffee accompanied by local teatime favourites.
The name itself carries two meanings. “Dulu” can mean “first”, as in having coffee before moving on with the day. It can also refer to “the old days”, recalling a time when sitting down for kopi and conversation was part of everyday Malaysian life.
That cultural connection gives the experience a role beyond serving refreshments. For visitors, especially those unfamiliar with the country, it offers a small window into Malaysian social habits.

Oriental Kopi Adds a Local Coffee Connection
Oriental Kopi’s participation adds another Malaysian element to the daily ritual. According to the announcement, locally grown coffee from the brand will now be served as part of Kopi Dulu.
The partnership was launched at the hotel by Palm Garden Hotel Putrajaya General Manager Marshall Chai, Oriental Kopi CEO Dato’ Calvin Chan and representatives from IOI Properties Group.
Images accompanying the announcement also show how the collaboration is being presented within the hotel, including a dedicated Oriental Kopi display and traditional-style coffee service.

Local Culture Becomes Part of Hospitality
For Malaysia’s hospitality sector, experiences built around local food and culture can help hotels create a stronger sense of place.
Guests increasingly encounter Malaysian identity not only through major attractions, but through smaller experiences such as food, coffee and everyday traditions. In Putrajaya, Kopi Dulu offers that connection without turning it into a formal cultural programme.
It also creates another touchpoint between hospitality operators and homegrown businesses. Instead of relying only on international concepts, hotels can use local products and traditions to shape experiences that feel specific to their destination.

Why It Matters for Putrajaya
Putrajaya is best known as Malaysia’s administrative capital, but its hotels also serve business travellers, events, meetings and leisure visitors.
Creating more locally rooted hospitality experiences can broaden what visitors encounter during their stay. A cup of Malaysian coffee may seem like a small detail, but it can help connect accommodation, local brands and cultural identity.
For businesses, such collaborations also offer a practical way to introduce Malaysian products to new audiences. For guests, the benefit is more straightforward: they get an experience tied to the place they are visiting rather than one that could be found anywhere.
Building Tourism Through Everyday Culture
Malaysia’s tourism appeal is closely linked to its diverse food culture. Coffee traditions are part of that story, alongside hawker food, kopitiams and regional dishes.
Palm Garden Hotel’s Kopi Dulu concept shows how hotels can bring these everyday traditions into the visitor experience while keeping them recognisable to Malaysians themselves.
The collaboration also reflects a wider opportunity for hospitality businesses to work with local brands. Done carefully, these partnerships can support domestic businesses while giving travellers a more meaningful connection to Malaysian culture.
For Palm Garden Hotel Putrajaya, the idea remains deliberately uncomplicated: sit down, have a cup of kopi, enjoy local snacks and spend time together.
Sometimes, that is enough to tell a Malaysian story.
