Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad has unveiled two major sports initiatives aimed at supporting Malaysian athletes and grassroots communities nationwide.
The company officially introduced Team Cahya Mata, a professional women’s track cycling team, alongside the launch of Piala Cahya Mata 2026, a nationwide grassroots football tournament.
Together, both initiatives reflect the company’s growing investment in youth development, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement through sports.
Supporting Malaysia’s Women Track Cyclists
Team Cahya Mata features four national women cyclists led by Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, currently ranked world No. 14 and a two-time Asian Championship gold medallist.
The three-year collaboration will see the athletes compete internationally under Team Cahya Mata as they prepare towards the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The initiative also highlights the increasing visibility and support for women athletes in Malaysia’s competitive sports landscape.
Piala Cahya Mata 2026 Goes Nationwide
Following the success of the Cahya Mata Football Cup in Kuching last year, the tournament now expands nationwide under Piala Cahya Mata 2026.
The football competition will cover all 13 states and Kuala Lumpur, with state champions progressing into knockout rounds before the Grand Finals in Kuching.
Open to non-professional Malaysian players aged 16 to 35, the tournament is expected to involve approximately 11,200 players and officials nationwide.
More Than Just Competition
Beyond football, the tournament also focuses on creating a positive environment for young Malaysians.
Cahya Mata will work with relevant authorities to incorporate drug awareness programmes and random drug screening throughout the competition.
The company says the initiative aims to encourage healthier lifestyles while creating opportunities for young athletes to grow through structured community sports.
Major Prize Pool to Support Grassroots Talent
More than RM700,000 in prize money will be awarded across both state and national levels.
Each state-level champion will receive RM20,000, while the national winner will take home RM100,000.
Importantly, there will be no registration fees for participating teams, helping make the competition more accessible to communities across the country.
Sports as a Platform for Community Growth

The dual launch reflects a broader trend where companies are using sports development to create social impact beyond sponsorship visibility.
By investing in grassroots football and elite women athletes, Cahya Mata is contributing to talent development, healthier communities, and wider participation in sports.
The initiatives also reinforce how sports continue to play an important role in youth engagement and national development.
