As Ramadan brings a spirit of togetherness and giving, Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) is making a real difference in the lives of Malaysia’s urban poor. Through its annual Gema Ramadan initiative, BERNAS provided essential food aid and warm meals to over 1,000 underprivileged individuals including orphans, single mothers, and asnaf families at PPR Hiliran Ampang.

Making Ramadan More Meaningful for the Less Fortunate

The Gema Ramadan Programme is more than just a food aid initiative, it’s a commitment to uplifting communities and ensuring no one is left behind.

At the official handover ceremony, Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, and Group CEO, Zulkiflee Abdul Rahman, personally deliver aid to residents.

“This partnership with BERNAS reflects how corporate entities can play a crucial role in empowering local communities, especially during Ramadan.”

YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantation and Commodities

“BERNAS is deeply committed to supporting Malaysia’s low-income and urban poor families, ensuring they have what they need for a more meaningful Ramadan and Aidilfitri.”

Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, Chairman of BERNAS

UNICEF Malaysia’s 2024 Report revealed that 41% of urban households now live below the poverty line, with single mothers being among the most affected.

Beyond Ramadan: BERNAS’ Ongoing Commitment to Social Good

BERNAS’ efforts go beyond Ramadan, with long-term community initiatives designed to fight food insecurity and support farmers:

  • PROMAK (Healthy Food Programme):

Free nutritious meals for over 20,000 primary school students across 97 schools in Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu & Pahang.

  • RM30 Million Allocation for Farmers

Supporting impoverished rice farmers as part of social responsibility under the Concession Agreement with the Malaysian Government.

Join the Movement: A Brighter Ramadan for All

BERNAS is proving that corporate social responsibility is more than just a tagline, it’s about real action and real impact.

So let’s support BERNAS’ mission to uplift underprivileged communities this Ramadan.
