Haze may have kept runners off the road, but it could not keep Subang Jaya apart. At SJMC Run 2026, Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) turned a cancelled race into a day of wellness activities, live performances and carnival games, and sponsored 41 free 3D mammograms for underserved women.

Haze forced the cancellation of both the 3km fun run and the 10km competitive run. Instead of sending everyone home, the hospital hosted a community programme on its premises, built around healthier living.

How SJMC Run 2026 Kept the Community Together

This year’s theme was “One Run, One Community, One Hope”. With the roads off-limits, SJMC leaned into the last two parts of that promise. Participants still turned up in their event tees, joined health and wellness activities, played carnival games and stayed on for live performances.

The state assembly, local council, police and fire services all lent their support, a sign of how many hands it takes to build a healthier community.

41 Free 3D Mammograms for Underserved Women

Alongside the community programme, SJMC sponsored 41 free 3D mammograms through a collaboration with the office of Subang Jaya assemblywoman YB Michelle Ng Mei Sze. A mock cheque worth RM16,277 was presented to YB Michelle during the event to mark the sponsorship.

The timing is no accident. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the initiative aims to improve access to breast screening. A 3D mammogram, or digital breast tomosynthesis, takes X-ray images from several angles to build a layered picture, which can make small changes easier to spot.

“This initiative will help women who face barriers to breast screening get access to an important health check. We welcome SJMC’s continued contributions to community health, from encouraging residents to stay active to helping underserved women access screening,” said YB Michelle.

Preventive Care Beyond Hospital Walls

Bryan Lin, Regional Chief Executive Officer of Asia OneHealthcare and Chief Executive Officer of SJMC and Ara Damansara Medical Centre (ADMC), spoke about the hospital’s long relationship with Subang Jaya.

“While we’re not running together today, our purpose remains the same: supporting a healthier community through preventive care. For over 40 years, our commitment has extended beyond our hospital walls, with initiatives such as the Teddy Paws Club, Alumni Circle, and Super Seniors Club keeping us connected with families at different stages of life,” he said.

He credited the community’s trust for helping SJMC grow into the internationally recognised quaternary hospital it is today. “As we continue to advance our medical capabilities and expertise, we remain equally committed to making preventive healthcare more accessible to the people we serve,” he added. “Through health screenings, educational talks and CSR initiatives such as our 3D mammogram sponsorship programme, we hope to encourage more people to take charge of their health, embrace early detection and seek medical attention when needed.”

Medals, Mascots and Lucky Draws at SJMC Run 2026

Even without a starting gun, there was plenty to celebrate at SJMC Run 2026. Participants posed with medals and mascots, queued at the lucky dip counter and cheered on the lucky draw winners.

41 Years Growing With Subang Jaya

For 41 years, SJMC has been a constant in a changing Subang Jaya, caring for generations of families. A member of Asia OneHealthcare, the 442-bed hospital was ranked among Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals in 2026, within the Top 250 globally and the Top 10 in ASEAN.

It continues to expand services for complex health needs, including transplant services and multidisciplinary treatment, while closer collaboration with ADMC brings more coordinated care to the communities both hospitals serve.
