KitKat® has taken a bold step toward showcasing Malaysian excellence by spotlighting its Borneo Single-Origin Dark Chocolate at the Malaysian International Cocoa Fair (MICF) 2025 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Organized at the Sabah International Convention Centre, the event marked a proud moment for Nestlé Malaysia as it reaffirmed its commitment to local cocoa farming, sustainability, and innovation through one of its most iconic products.
By featuring KitKat® Dark Borneo crafted using 100% cocoa beans sourced exclusively from Sabah and Sarawak, Nestlé is not only celebrating local flavours but also building a meaningful bridge between tradition, sustainability, and modern indulgence.
Inside the KitKat® Dark Borneo Story
Nestlé Malaysia served as the Platinum Sponsor of MICF 2025 and highlighted its strong partnership with the Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB). At the heart of this collaboration is the Nestlé Borneo Cocoa Initiative (NBCI), launched in 2023. This program empowers local farmers in East Malaysia by providing them with advanced cultivation methods and promoting regenerative agriculture practices such as agroforestry and intercropping.
These efforts have already made waves. Nestlé has committed to sourcing 10,000 metric tonnes of cocoa locally by 2034 a game-changer for the industry. The KitKat® Dark Borneo itself is a testament to these efforts, as it uses responsibly sourced beans that are fermented and sun-dried in Malaysia’s tropical climate and nutrient-rich volcanic soil.
Crafted for the Conscious Consumer and Chocolate Lovers

Beyond its rich flavour profile, KitKat® Dark Borneo offers more than just a sweet treat. With 52% cocoa, the chocolate strikes the perfect balance between bitterness and sweetness. It represents the future of chocolate: ethical, traceable, and deeply connected to its origins. It’s no surprise that this product won the NielsenIQ BASES Breakthrough Innovation Award 2024, a prestigious recognition of both innovation and consumer appeal.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there. Nestlé has expanded the concept into other categories, launching the KitKat® Dark Borneo Ice Cream. It features a smooth wafer ice cream coated in dark Borneo chocolate and topped with crunchy KitKat® wafer bits, an indulgent experience with a local soul.

Malaysia’s Cocoa Revival is Just Beginning
While Malaysia’s cocoa processing industry recorded exports worth RM15 billion in 2024, most of this success has relied on imported beans. By investing in local farming, Nestlé is helping close this gap, bringing both economic opportunities and global recognition to Malaysian cocoa. The future of chocolate is local, ethical, and sustainable, and KitKat® Dark Borneo is leading the way.
