#MYouth, Maybank’s dedicated youth community, introduced GenM, a platform crafted by and for young people, with the aim of fostering communities and enhancing the skills of today’s youth. The extensive month-long GenM Global Summit wholeheartedly embraced a worldwide perspective by organizing ‘episodes’ that embodied the theme ‘Learn. Play. Defy.,’ inspiring and engaging youth in a meaningful manner.
The grand finale, held on October 17, 2023, represented a significant milestone where young minds converged to stimulate innovative thinking, establish valuable networks, and generate fresh ideas through a wide range of panel discussions and workshops featuring industry leaders and inspirational role models from across the globe.
Special Appearance By Michael Owen
The GenM Global Summit 2023 Finale reached new heights with the addition of football legend Michael Owen, who graced the event as an honored guest. Michael Owen’s extraordinary evolution from a young prodigy to an iconic figure in the football world served as an inspiring testament to overcoming challenges and attaining greatness.

Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli, the Group President and CEO of Maybank Group, expressed admiration for the accomplishments of Maybank’s #MYouth in the GenM Global Summit 2023. The month-long event involved over 6,500 young participants from 7 different countries, offering them more than 70 global GenM Episodes designed to inspire them to ‘Learn, Play, and Defy’.
LEARN
Attendees had the chance to ‘Learn’ and gain knowledge from respected authorities and visionaries during enlightening panel discussions, including ‘Breaking Boundaries: Empowered Women,’ featuring Maybank’s Group Chief Human Capital Officer, Datuk (Dr) Nora Manaf, and Malaysia’s pioneering female mixed martial artist, Ann Osman.
Additionally, inspirational podcast and content producers Maggy Wang and Amelia Henderson also shared their valuable insights on how young individuals can navigate social media and harness these platforms with a more meaningful and purpose-driven approach.
PLAY
The essence of ‘Play’ was fostered through an array of interactive experiences and games designed to promote networking, relaxation, and the establishment of significant relationships, including ‘Scentsation,’ an aromatic emporium, and ‘Ink Depot,’ a creative doodling workshop.
DEFY
Furthermore, the summit’s grand finale motivated participants to ‘Defy’ the existing norms by means of the Global GenM Idea Competition, where shortlisted individuals were tasked with envisioning innovative solutions capable of sparking positive transformations in their local communities and on a global scale.
The Winner Of The Global GenM Idea Challenge
The team from the Philippines, known as eMAEblers, emerged victorious as they clinched the top spot in the Global GenM Idea Challenge with their innovative concept.
Initially launched in 2022 by #MYouth, GenM began as a dedicated space for Maybank’s youth community to interact. In the current year, the platform expanded its horizons beyond Maybank, placing a strong emphasis on inclusivity, ensuring that students and young professionals from diverse backgrounds could join in, connect, and foster personal growth.
