Kuala Lumpur’s premium grocery scene has welcomed another addition as The Food Merchant Solaris Mont Kiara officially opened on 8 October 2026.

The new outlet brings a wider selection of international groceries, fresh local produce and convenient shopping services to one of the capital’s established residential and commercial neighbourhoods.

Bringing International Food Choices Closer to Home

Solaris Mont Kiara is known for its mix of local residents, expatriates, offices and dining establishments. This makes the area a suitable location for a grocery concept offering both familiar household products and international food selections.

The new store features fresh produce, imported groceries and gourmet ingredients, giving shoppers more options for everyday meals and special occasions.

For households looking for international ingredients, having these products available within the neighbourhood can make grocery shopping more convenient.

The expansion also reflects how premium supermarkets are positioning themselves beyond traditional grocery retail, with greater attention to product variety, customer service and shopping convenience.

Supporting Kuala Lumpur’s Evolving Retail Landscape

Malaysia’s grocery retail sector serves customers with different budgets, lifestyles and food preferences. While conventional supermarkets remain important for daily essentials, specialised grocery stores cater to shoppers seeking a broader product selection.

The Food Merchant is part of this segment, focusing on curated international products alongside locally sourced fresh food.

Founded in 2021 with its flagship store at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, the brand is backed by the founders of Village Grocer, an established supermarket chain in Malaysia.

Its latest opening strengthens its presence in Kuala Lumpur’s competitive grocery market.

Ivan Tan, Group Executive Director of The Food Purveyor, said the new store reflects the company’s aim to make grocery shopping more engaging while serving Mont Kiara’s diverse community.

The expansion also adds another retail option for nearby residents, office workers and visitors.

More Than Just Grocery Shopping

Beyond its product selection, the Solaris Mont Kiara outlet introduces several services designed to make shopping easier.

These include:

  • Gift-Wrapping Station: Complimentary wrapping materials and personalised thank-you cards.
  • Merchant Care Counter: Free shopping trolley parking for added convenience.
  • Expert Preparation Counters: Customised meat and seafood cutting services.
  • Yes I Do! Loyalty Programme: Member rewards, points collection and exclusive prices.

These services reflect a wider shift in grocery retail, where convenience and customer experience play a growing role in attracting shoppers.

Dato’ Douglas Cheng, Director of Daman Group, welcomed the new outlet, noting that its grocery concept complements Solaris Mont Kiara’s position as a neighbourhood lifestyle destination.

He said the addition would provide greater convenience for residents, workers and visitors while strengthening the area’s retail offering.

Opening Promotions Continue Until November

To mark its opening, The Food Merchant introduced several promotions and loyalty rewards running from 8 October to 1 November 2026.

Among the upcoming highlights is a seafood promotion on 16 and 17 October, where shoppers spending at least RM350 on fresh seafood in a single receipt can redeem a whole Norwegian salmon weighing approximately 3–4kg.

The promotion is limited to 25 redemptions per day and includes cutting and vacuum-packing services.

Shoppers can also register for the free Yes I Do! membership programme, which offers:

  • A complimentary non-woven shopping bag with a minimum RM80 purchase.
  • A free herb plant with a minimum RM180 purchase, limited to 100 units.
  • A free succulent plant with a minimum RM80 purchase, limited to 100 units.
  • One loyalty point for every RM2 spent, alongside member-only offers.

All complimentary gifts are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while stocks last. Terms and conditions apply.

What This Expansion Means for the Community

New retail openings can contribute to the development of established urban neighbourhoods by improving access to products and services.

For Solaris Mont Kiara, the addition of The Food Merchant gives residents another grocery option while supporting the area’s mix of shopping, dining and everyday services.

It also shows how grocery retailers are adapting their store concepts to suit different communities rather than relying on a single supermarket format.

As Kuala Lumpur’s neighbourhoods continue to develop, convenience, food variety and accessible retail services are likely to remain important factors in shaping local shopping experiences.

The Food Merchant’s latest outlet adds to that choice, bringing local and international food selections closer to the Mont Kiara community.
