On August 4, 2024, SJK (C) Bachang in Melaka turned into a lively center for health and wellness. The Melaka Health Day event, carefully organized by Junior Chamber International Malacca City Entrepreneur in partnership with the Melaka Health Department and other esteemed organizations, radiated community spirit and health awareness. The event attracted over 300 enthusiastic participants, all eager to take advantage of the various health services and activities.
Highlights of Memorable Health Day
Blood Donation Drive
The event kicked off with a blood donation drive, collecting 120 bags of plasma, and providing crucial support for patients in need. The sight of community members lining up to donate was heartwarming and inspiring.
Free HPV Vaccinations
For people aged 9 to 45, they received free HPV vaccinations. The event distributed a total of 176 doses, showing a significant step in cancer prevention.
Comprehensive Health Screenings
The event offered a variety of health screenings:
- Cancer screening: 99 blood samples were collected for early cancer detection.
- General Health Checks: Over 100 participants had their blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI checked. Several of them were referred for further treatment.
- Vision and Dental Checks: Vision screenings for 66 individuals and dental check-ups for 75 people ensured comprehensive care.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Consultations
Also, Melaka Health Day 2024 provided experts in traditional Chinese medicine. This included pulse diagnosis, acupuncture, and other treatments which served as a holistic approach to wellness for 81 participants.
Engaging Seminars and Lifesaving Training
People also get to listen to insightful seminars, such as:
- Diabetes Prevention: Dr. Nor Atiqah Binti Morsid shared essential strategies for diabetes prevention.
- Diet and Nutrition: Dr. Soh Yih Harng emphasized the importance of balanced eating for chronic disease prevention.
- AED First Aid Training: St. John Ambulance Malaysia provided crucial training on using Automated External Defibrillators, empowering attendees with life-saving skills.
Promotional booths showcased the latest products and services, providing them with valuable resources and information.
A Call to Continued Collaboration and Health Awareness
Organizing Chairman Lee Chong Yang expressed heartfelt gratitude to all supporting units and individuals, including YB Ngwe Hee Sem, for their invaluable contributions. Also, Melaka International Youth Chamber President Ng Haw Yang echoed his sentiment. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to foster a healthy community.
Next, National Deputy President Yong Tian Wei highlighted the urgency of raising health awareness, particularly among younger generations. This is due to the rising prevalence of sudden deaths. His initiative in organizing this event reflects a deep commitment to a healthy community.
