
As it celebrates its 30th anniversary, DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, has released its 2024 Annual Report, showing impressive growth across all major metrics. With over 4,000 networks connected globally, 170 terabits of customer capacity, and a record peak traffic of 25 Tbit/s, DE-CIX continues to shape the future of digital connectivity.
The company recorded an 8.3% revenue growth, reaching €68.6 million, while expanding to 60 markets across five continents. This global footprint supports its strategic push into Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia, where digital transformation efforts are accelerating and demand for secure, scalable connectivity is surging.
DE-CIX Expands Across Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia
Malaysia is a core pillar of DE-CIX’s regional growth. The company currently operates three Internet Exchanges (IXs) in the country including Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang, with DE-CIX Kuala Lumpur alone experiencing a 41% increase in customer capacity in 2024. The successful launch of Penang IX (PIX) in early 2024, in collaboration with Digital Penang, saw 11 networks connected by year’s end, improving access to secure, high-speed interconnection in northern Malaysia.
In Southeast Asia, DE-CIX recorded a 61% increase in customer bandwidth (3.1 Tbits) and a surge in demand for 100 GE ports. The Singapore–Johor Bahru metro corridor saw a 67% rise in capacity, highlighting cross-border digital synergy. Meanwhile, DE-CIX Jakarta, launched in 2024, connected 118 networks in its debut year, underlining the region’s hunger for low-latency, high-capacity solutions.
Fueling AI-Ready, Low-Latency Infrastructure for Malaysia’s Digital Economy

DE-CIX’s services like GlobePEER ASEAN, VirtualPNI, and DirectCLOUD are designed to support low-latency, high-performance data exchange, directly benefiting ISPs, cloud providers, and enterprises. In 2024, the DE-CIX global ecosystem transferred 68 exabytes of data, 1 15% increase from the previous year, reflecting the surge in cloud adoption, streaming, and real-time applications.
According to Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, the company is actively preparing for the future of interconnection:
