As excitement builds for World Cup 2026, CelcomDigi is ramping up preparations to ensure Malaysians can enjoy uninterrupted streaming and digital experiences throughout the tournament.
The telecommunications provider expects a surge in mobile data usage as football fans tune in to live matches, engage on social media, and share real-time content through their smartphones and connected devices.
Preparing for Higher Data Demand
According to CelcomDigi, World Cup 2026 is expected to be one of the most digitally connected sporting events yet, with more fans relying on mobile streaming platforms to follow the action.
To support this demand, the company’s Network Operations Centre (NOC) will monitor network performance around the clock throughout the tournament period. Network engineers and technical teams will oversee more than 18,000 sites nationwide to maintain service quality and reliability.
The company is also using predictive analytics and match schedule data to anticipate peak traffic periods and optimise network performance accordingly.
Strengthening Coverage Across Malaysia
Several proactive measures have been introduced to support network resilience during match days.
These include additional capacity planning, targeted upgrades at high-traffic locations, deployment of mobile base stations, and continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure. Areas expected to see higher demand include residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts, and public viewing venues.
The initiative aims to provide a consistent viewing experience whether customers are streaming matches from home, at work, or while travelling.
Staying Connected at Home and Abroad
For Malaysians travelling during the tournament, CelcomDigi has also enhanced its international roaming capabilities, providing connectivity across more than 120 countries.
This allows customers to stay connected and follow World Cup updates wherever they are, while continuing to access digital services and communications throughout their journey.
With network coverage reaching 97% of populated areas nationwide, the company continues to invest in strengthening connectivity as digital consumption habits evolve.
Special Streaming Pass for Football Fans
To complement its network preparations, CelcomDigi is offering a special internet pass for customers during the tournament.
For RM10, users can subscribe to a seven-day Unlimited Internet pass that provides unlimited internet access from 12am to 12pm daily. Customers who subscribe from 8 June 2026 onwards will also receive all-day unlimited internet exclusively for streaming on the RTMKlik app.
The offering is designed to help fans enjoy live football coverage while managing their data usage during the competition.
Bringing Malaysians Closer to the Game
As digital platforms become the primary way people consume live sports, reliable connectivity plays an increasingly important role in the fan experience.
By strengthening its network infrastructure and introducing streaming-focused offers, CelcomDigi aims to help Malaysians stay connected to every goal, highlight, and match moment throughout World Cup 2026.
