For many Malaysians, The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) has been a familiar name at family meals, shopping trips and casual gatherings. Now, the homegrown halal restaurant chain is celebrating its 26th anniversary with a refreshed identity and several new additions.
The anniversary refresh includes an updated mascot, new staff uniforms and a redesigned printed menu. TCRS is also expanding its food and merchandise offerings as it looks towards its next chapter in Malaysia.
More Than Its Signature Chicken Rice
Chicken rice remains at the heart of TCRS, but its menu has grown considerably since the brand opened its first restaurant in 2000.
Newer creations include Boneless Crispy Roast Chicken, Strawberry Kunafa Pai Tee, BBQ Chicken Mayo Pai Tee, and Cakoi with Pandan Gula Melaka. The mix brings together familiar Malaysian flavours with newer ideas aimed at giving diners more variety.
TCRS has also expanded into merchandise, including its own Sambal Chilli Crunch, allowing customers to bring some of the restaurant’s flavours home.
A Malaysian Brand With More Than 160 Outlets

From its beginnings 26 years ago, TCRS has grown to more than 160 outlets nationwide, making it one of Malaysia’s established homegrown casual dining chains.
Jane Wong, Deputy General Manager of The Chicken Rice Shop Restaurants Sdn. Bhd., said the refresh reflects both the company’s history and its efforts to keep improving the dining experience.
“For 26 years, Malaysians have made The Chicken Rice Shop part of their everyday moments, and we are incredibly grateful for that support,” she said.
The company plans to continue making its affordable dining experience accessible by bringing outlets closer to where Malaysians live, shop and travel.
Giving Back Remains Part of the Journey
TCRS is also using its anniversary to highlight its long-running community efforts.
Through its CSR programme, the company says it has sponsored more than 7,000 meals annually to orphanages, welfare organisations and nurseries across Malaysia since 2000.
The initiative adds a community dimension to the company’s growth. As its restaurant network has expanded, TCRS has continued using food as a way to support people beyond its paying customers.
Merdeka Combo Brings Local Favourites Together

The anniversary celebrations also coincide with TCRS’ annual Merdeka campaign, which runs until 20 September 2026.
Customers can enjoy a RM16.90 Merdeka Combo, which comes with a single portion of steamed, roast or soy sauce chicken, chicken rice, a choice of Keropok Lekor or Penang Rojak, and a 12oz soft drink.
By combining several familiar Malaysian favourites in one meal, the promotion ties the company’s anniversary to the wider National Day season.
26 Years and a New Chapter Ahead
TCRS’ latest refresh shows how a long-running Malaysian brand can evolve without moving too far away from what made it familiar in the first place.
With more than 160 outlets, new menu ideas and continued community programmes, its 26th anniversary is less about changing its identity and more about finding new ways to remain relevant to Malaysian diners.
