Signature International Berhad has partnered with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) to transform its Jalan Imbi centre into a dual-purpose facility for food distribution and community empowerment.
Introduced under the Signature Cares initiative, the upgraded centre combines immediate food assistance with space for practical skills programmes. The aim is to help KSK serve vulnerable communities more efficiently while creating opportunities for longer-term self-reliance.
One Community Space, Two Important Roles
Kechara Soup Kitchen’s Jalan Imbi centre has supported individuals and families facing hardship for nearly two decades. As its outreach grew, the organisation needed a space that could handle food distribution while supporting more empowerment activities.
Signature redesigned the centre around this need. During daily operations, the facility can support meal preparation and distribution. At other times, the same space can be used for cooking, baking and other skills development programmes.
The flexible approach allows KSK to make better use of its existing facility while helping beneficiaries move beyond immediate assistance towards practical learning and greater confidence.
Signature Uses Its Expertise for Social Impact
Rather than limiting its contribution to financial support, Signature brought more than 30 years of experience in creating functional living spaces to the project.
The company contributed its expertise in design, manufacturing, installation and project management to improve the centre’s workflow and overall functionality for staff, volunteers and beneficiaries.
Signature Group CEO Lau Kock Sang said businesses can create meaningful impact by applying the capabilities they already possess to genuine community needs.

Supporting Skills and Greater Independence
For KSK, the upgraded facility creates room to expand the organisation’s role beyond food relief.
KSK General Manager Justin Cheah Kok Leong said the centre will allow the organisation to distribute meals more efficiently while providing an environment where beneficiaries can develop practical skills and confidence.
This combination is important because community support does not always end with providing immediate assistance. Skills development can help individuals become more independent and potentially create new pathways towards employment or income generation.
Employees Join the Community Effort
Signature employees also contributed essential dry food items through the company’s Food Bank Donation Initiative.
The items were collected according to a needs list provided by KSK and will support the organisation’s continuing assistance for vulnerable communities.
The Jalan Imbi project is also expected to mark the beginning of a longer partnership. Signature and KSK are exploring future volunteer activities, community programmes and empowerment initiatives through Signature Cares.
