For many years, both adults and children have found pleasure in video games. Video games have advanced to the point where they are more realistic than ever. No more blurry graphics and poor audio. There are even real-life tournaments for this kind of activity, known as e-sports. Video games are continuing to advance along with technology, which gives room for people to take advantage of them. Ever heard about microtransaction in video games?

What Is Microtransaction

Microtransactions are in-game, small-scale payments that let users obtain extra features, like new skins, weapons, and other improvements. The practice of microtransactions may appear harmless, yet they pose a severe risk to the fairness and fun of contemporary video games. This will slowly affect players’ video gaming experience.

How Microtransaction Ruins The Gaming Industry

Although microtransactions can be included in games in a constructive way, the gaming industry is being severely ruined by this practice. The damages mentioned below can be significantly seen and there is no point in hiding them.

1. Inequality & Unfairness

The Problem In The Gaming Industry

The fact that microtransactions frequently encourage unfairness and inequality among online gaming communities is another significant problem with them. Microtransactions put players who cannot afford to spend money at a disadvantage. This is because they are not able to grant access to rare or unique content.

As a result, players may essentially purchase their way to the top of leaderboards in this “pay-to-win” setting. Hence, no effort is put into trying to win. This really irritates a lot of players and goes against the spirit of fair and competitive gameplay.

2. The “Endgame” Problem

Microtransactions frequently give away a game’s “endgame” or “climax.” A lot of contemporary games are designed with long-term engagement in mind, rewarding players who continue to play the game for months or even years.

By giving gamers quick routes to the greatest levels of achievement, microtransactions destroy this sense of success. Players who have put a lot of time and effort into the game may not feel as satisfied as they could as they do not work their way up to success.

3. Low Game Quality

The fact that microtransactions take developers’ attention away from producing high-quality gameplay and instead focus them on finding ways to monetize their games is one of the main issues with them. For players, this implies that a lot of recently released games have poor design, uneven gameplay, and incomplete content because the developers are more concerned with making as much money as possible.

Furthermore, the purpose of microtransactions is to create addiction. Players frequently feel under pressure to continuously purchase more stuff in order to gain access to new features or stay competitive. This indicates that rather than making truly engaging and entertaining experiences, game makers are more likely to intentionally construct their games to lure gamers to keep spending money.

The Future Of Microtransaction

Most microtransactions are detrimental to the video game business.

Theoretically, in-game microtransactions can be made to function without forcing players to pay by capping spending or restricting them to cosmetic upgrades. Regretfully, though, an increasing number of games are utilizing microtransactions in a more significant—and detrimental—way.

It is imperative for game firms to remain aware of the experiences of their players in order to prevent alienation or unhealthy addiction. Ultimately, games may be depressing if they overly mimic the injustices found in the real world.
