Sarawak has moved beyond policy statements and into concrete action. The 8th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS25), held from 22 to 23 October 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), proved that the state’s commitment to building a sustainable and ethical digital economy is more than just words.
With 10,000 delegates, 129 speakers, and 202 exhibitors, IDECS25 highlighted Sarawak’s rise as a leader in ethical AI and sustainability.
Sarawak’s Digital And Green Evolution
Themed “AI & Green Evolution,” the conference highlighted technology’s role in empowering communities and promoting sustainable growth.
Strategic Partnerships Driving Real-World Change
IDECS25 was a launchpad for action. Over 22 agreements were signed, covering AI, connectivity, bioeconomy, and green-tech initiatives. These agreements reinforce Sarawak’s mission to build an inclusive digital ecosystem that serves both local communities and regional partners.
Among the highlights was the TikTok Shop Live Selling Competition, part of SDEC’s Sarawak Digital Mall initiative. The programme empowers 100 Sarawakian entrepreneurs with hands-on training in livestream commerce and digital marketing. This is to culminate in a grand finale at the Kuching Waterfront this December. This initiative illustrates how Sarawak’s digital-economy strategy creates real business opportunities for MSMEs, turning digital transformation into tangible local benefits.
Ethical AI And Sustainable Growth

In his Ministerial Insight Address, YB Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Bin Haji Narawi, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, articulated Sarawak’s vision for ethical AI and the green digital economy. He stated:
“Leadership in this digital decade will not be measured by speed, but by responsibility. Our task is not just to lead in technology, but to lead with conscience, to shape growth that uplifts people, protects the planet, and strengthens communities,”
Conference sessions such as “Smart Cities, Smarter Communities” and “The Ethical Firewall” explored how data governance, trust, and transparency can strengthen public confidence and community resilience. Meanwhile, the SHE-TECH Asia Forum 2025 shone a spotlight on women leaders driving digital and environmental progress. Meanwhile, the Startup Village connected emerging innovators with investors through live demos, mentorship, and networking. This reinforces Sarawak’s growing reputation as a vibrant innovation hub.
Honouring Excellence At The Digital Economy Awards

The Sarawak Digital Economy Awards (DEA) 2025, held during the IDECS25 Gala Dinner and officiated by The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Premier of Sarawak, recognised outstanding achievements across seven categories. These included digital government, creative content, environmental sustainability, industry transformation, and start-up excellence.
The night’s most prestigious accolade, the Premier’s Digital Economy Award 2025, went to X-Fab Sdn Bhd for its exceptional contribution to Sarawak’s digital transformation. As part of the honour, X-Fab will represent Sarawak at the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, placing Sarawak’s innovators on a global stage.
In his closing remarks, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, Chairman of SDEC and Deputy Chairman of IDECS, reflected on the conference’s success:
“IDECS25 showed what it means to deliver on our ambitions. The partnerships forged here will translate into pilots, services, and opportunities that people can feel — strengthening a digital economy that is ethical, secure, and inclusive for Sarawakians and our regional partners.”
Sarawak As A Regional Model
IDECS25 firmly positioned Sarawak as a driving force in ASEAN’s digital and green transformation. Aligning closely with the region’s green and digital agenda, Sarawak is proving that technology and sustainability can coexist when guided by ethics, inclusivity, and collaboration.
As the state continues to prioritise green intelligence, its journey from policy to practice offers a blueprint for responsible progress. Through initiatives like IDECS25, Sarawak is not only redefining its own future but also shaping a more sustainable and equitable digital economy for the region.
