REHDA Institute is leading a delegation of Malaysian housing and real estate leaders on a study mission to the United Kingdom from 19 to 25 March 2026. The initiative aims to give industry leaders global insights into sustainable urban development, housing reform, and city planning.
The delegation includes developers, urban planners, legal experts, and government representatives who will meet with UK policymakers, architects, and academic institutions to exchange knowledge on housing and urban development.
Learning Global Approaches to Urban Development
The study mission focuses on learning from international best practices in urban regeneration, transit-oriented development (TOD), and affordable housing solutions.
Malaysia is currently strengthening its own urban development strategies, including urban regeneration policies, strata law reforms, and transportation-focused planning.
According to Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip, Chairman of REHDA Institute, global exposure helps industry leaders gain practical knowledge that can improve Malaysia’s housing sector.
He noted that international collaboration allows Malaysian stakeholders to build more resilient and liveable cities in the future.
Strategic Forums With UK Experts
During the mission, delegates will take part in four key forums across the United Kingdom.
In London, the group will meet experts from Foster + Partners to discuss transit-oriented development and urban planning strategies. They will also meet Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development.
Another forum organised by Trowers & Hamlins will explore UK urban regeneration laws and governance frameworks.
The delegation will also attend a Sustainability and Water Management Forum in Bath, hosted by Wessex Water and YTL Developments, focusing on sustainable infrastructure.
The programme will conclude in Cambridge, where participants will join a housing and urban planning forum with experts from the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University.
Site Visits to Major UK Developments
In addition to the forums, the delegation will visit several major development projects in the United Kingdom.
These include:
- Embassy Gardens – EcoWorld Development Group
- Royal Mint Gardens – IJM Corporation
- Brabazon – YTL Developments
- Woolwich Student Accommodation – Gamuda Land
These visits will provide real-world insights into urban regeneration projects, rental housing models, and integrated city planning.
REHDA Malaysia President Datuk Ho Hon Sang said exposure to international projects allows Malaysian developers to adapt global best practices to local needs.
Strengthening Malaysia’s Housing and Urban Future
REHDA Institute believes the study mission will help Malaysian leaders translate global insights into practical strategies for the country’s housing and urban development.
Through collaboration with international experts and policymakers, the programme aims to strengthen Malaysia’s long-term urban development planning and housing policies.
The initiative also reflects REHDA Institute’s role in connecting industry leaders with global knowledge to support the nation’s future cities.
