Taipei, 22 August, Deputy Director-General Chou emphasized the strong ties between Malaysia and Taiwan, highlighting Malaysia as a key market for promoting Muslim tourism. Since 2018, the Tourism Administration has been building the “Salam Taiwan” brand in the Malaysian Muslim market, positioning Taiwan as a welcoming destination for Muslim travelers. The new promotional video, themed “Jom” (Malay for “come”), uses Nabila’s popularity to encourage Malaysians to visit Taiwan.
Taiwan’s Commitment to a Muslim-Friendly Environment
Recognizing the global Muslim community’s business potential, the Tourism Administration began creating a Muslim-friendly environment in 2012. This initiative has kept Taiwan among the top three in the “Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI)” by CrescentRating since 2019. In Malaysia, where over 70% of the population is Muslim, more than 200,000 Malaysian tourists visited Taiwan between January and May 2024—a nearly 20% increase from last year—highlighting Taiwan’s commitment to offering a Muslim-friendly travel experience.
