Malaysia won the gold medal in the women’s squash team event at the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014, under the leadership of former world No. 1 Nicol David. However, in 2018, they lost to India in the semi-finals and had to settle for the bronze medal. Now, the women’s squash team is finally getting back on its feet and showing the world what they are capable of doing for Malaysia.
Overall, the victory is also a boost for Malaysian squash as a whole and shows that the Malaysian women’s team is one of the best in the world. It is also to inspire more young Malaysians to take up squash. Squash is already a popular sport, but the team’s success at the Asian Games is likely to further increase its popularity.
