In a groundbreaking move for Malaysia’s gig economy, foodpanda Malaysia has officially launched ‘pandasafe‘. It is the nation’s first comprehensive and long-term rider safety programme designed to protect and empower delivery partners across the country. Formed through a powerful public-private collaboration with Allianz Malaysia Berhad, Hong Leong Bank, PERKESO, and Hong Leong Yamaha Motor, pandasafe is more than a safety pledge. It is a lasting commitment to safeguarding riders and shaping safer roads for all Malaysians.
A Proactive Leap for the Gig Economy

The initiative was unveiled at foodpanda’s headquarters in a ceremony officiated by YB Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport Malaysia. He praised the effort as a model for how the gig economy can be supported sustainably by saying:
“The safety of our delivery partners must be treated as a national priority. I applaud foodpanda and its partners for stepping up with a long-term, structured programme that goes beyond awareness. pandasafe sets a new benchmark for how companies can take responsibility in making our roads safer for gig workers.”

pandasafe acts as a Permanent Safety Ecosystem

Unlike seasonal safety campaigns, pandasafe is designed as a permanent safety ecosystem, blending education, technology, behavioural science, and financial literacy to create a lasting impact.
Tan Ming Luk, Managing Director of foodpanda Malaysia, emphasized the programme’s long-term commitment:
“Our delivery partners are the heart of foodpanda. Every safely completed order and every rider who gets home safely is a success. With pandasafe, we’re embedding safety into every aspect of our operations, every day. It’s not a seasonal campaign; it’s a permanent shift in how we operate. This is our commitment to our riders, their families, and the communities we serve.”

Key Elements of pandasafe:
- Rider Training & Skills Development: Focused on safe riding, defensive riding techniques and braking skills training, with Hong Leong Yamaha Motor.
- Telematics Tools: Digital tools to track and improve riding behaviour.
- Emergency Preparedness: First Response and CPR training by Allianz Malaysia.
- Social Protection Education: Safety net awareness and P-Hailing Safety Induction with PERKESO.
- Financial Literacy: Programmes from Hong Leong Bank to help riders plan, save, and secure their futures.
By integrating these measures, pandasafe creates a comprehensive framework that protects riders on the road, supports them financially, and strengthens the overall gig economy.
A Call to Action for Safer Roads

With pandasafe, foodpanda Malaysia is setting a new gold standard for rider protection in the gig economy. This is particularly a call for industry players, policymakers, and communities to join in creating safer roads and a stronger future for Malaysia’s delivery workforce.
Safety isn’t just a policy. It’s a culture. pandasafe is here to make that culture a reality, one ride at a time.
