FedEx and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for another two years. Under the renewed FedEx MATRADE MoU, both organisations will keep helping Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) build the knowledge, skills and connections they need to sell to the world.
The MoU was exchanged on 3 November 2026 at the MATRADE ACADEMY Strategic Networking Ceremony at Menara MATRADE, Kuala Lumpur. It also follows FedEx’s recent move to expand its import tool to nine Asia Pacific markets.

What the Renewed FedEx MATRADE MoU Covers
Under the renewed collaboration, FedEx and MATRADE will jointly run industry programmes, knowledge-sharing initiatives and business engagement activities. The aim is to strengthen exporters’ understanding of international trade.
The partnership will also support the exchange of information in three key areas:
- Market opportunities – where Malaysian businesses can find new customers abroad.
- Trade requirements – the rules and procedures exporters must meet in different markets.
- Global supply chains – logistics know-how from FedEx, whose network delivers to more than 220 countries and territories.
Together, these are meant to give SMEs greater confidence and capability as they expand internationally.

Woon Tien Long: SMEs Need the Right Knowledge Across Borders
“Expanding into international markets requires more than a competitive solution, businesses need access to the right knowledge across borders,” said Woon Tien Long, managing director of FedEx Malaysia.
“Through our renewed collaboration with MATRADE, we are helping Malaysian SMEs better understand international trade, navigate evolving market requirements and unlock growth opportunities across the world. Together, we aim to equip businesses with the capabilities they need to compete and thrive in the global economy,” he added.
MATRADE: Making MSMEs Export-Ready
“Empowering our Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to navigate the global market is central to MATRADE’s mandate. We are grateful to have FedEx as a strategic partner under the MATRADE ACADEMY initiative,” said Dato’ Indera Abu Bakar Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE.
He said the collaboration is vital for nurturing MSMEs through focused capacity building, giving them critical insights, global logistics expertise and practical knowledge on exports.
“By accelerating their export readiness, we aim to elevate the global competitiveness of our local businesses so as to enable them to immerse into the global supply chain and eventually to increase MSMEs’ contribution to Malaysia’s exports,” he said.
Inside MATRADE ACADEMY’s 16 Export Modules
MATRADE ACADEMY brings MATRADE together with partners from the public and private sectors. It offers 16 capacity-building modules for exporters, covering areas such as export readiness, logistics and digital trade.
The programme serves two groups. It prepares MSMEs that have not yet exported to enter international markets, and it helps existing exporters reach more markets. It sits alongside MATRADE’s other trade platforms, such as the MIHAS 2026 halal trade showcase.
Building on the FedEx MATRADE MoU First Signed in 2024
The original FedEx MATRADE MoU was signed in September 2024, pairing MATRADE’s export development expertise with FedEx’s global transportation network.
Since then, the partnership has supported Malaysian businesses through more than 10 activities. These included export-focused events, logistics facility tours and educational workshops on international trade and supply chain best practices.
New FedEx Routes Bring Key Markets Closer
The renewal is backed by FedEx’s ongoing investment in Malaysia’s links to key international markets.
In November 2025, FedEx launched a dedicated Guangzhou–Penang cargo service, supporting cross-border trade and improving access to regional and global markets for Malaysian exporters. In August 2026, it added a new non-stop freighter service between Guangzhou, China, and Sydney, Australia, giving Malaysian businesses that trade with Australia better network connectivity.
With the FedEx MATRADE MoU renewed, Malaysian SMEs can count on two more years of training, trade insights and logistics support as they look beyond home shores.
Federal Express Corporation is one of the world’s largest express transportation companies. MATRADE, established on 1 March 1993, is Malaysia’s national trade promotion agency under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
