Large Scale Smart Paddy Field Initiative Leads the Way in Technological Advancements as BERNAS Reinforces Commitment to Food Security Agenda
Serdang, 13 September 2024 – Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS), the Malaysian Government’s preferred partner in driving the Food Security Agenda highlight its innovations and technological advancements at this year’s Malaysia Agricultural, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA 2024) exhibition.
Notable features include the Large Scale Smart Paddy Field (SMART SBB) programme, covering over 1,881 hectares across 10 states nationwide. This initiative empowers farmers with cutting-edge mechanisation technology, showcasing Malaysia’s industry progress and BERNAS’ leadership in driving the sector forward.

Dedicated to Advancing the Paddy Industry
Aligned with MAHA 2024’s theme, “Harvesting Tomorrow Where Dreams Blossom”, BERNAS’ collaboration with Southeast Asia’s premier agricultural exhibition reinforces its dedication to advancing the paddy industry. At the same time aim to promote public awareness of its significance. This is part of BERNAS ongoing commitment to bolstering the nation’s food security.
BERNAS’ main objectives at MAHA 2024 is to educate visitors, delegates and stakeholders and create a deeper understanding on the importance of food security. In addition to it, how the rice industry is critical to this stability. To that end, BERNAS also hopes to engage more youth, as they are vital towards the growth and future of the sector.
Various Engaging Activities and Contest awaiting MAHA visitors
Besides educational exhibits, various engaging activities and contests will be available to visitors. The activities aim to provide unique insights into BERNAS’ impact on the paddy industry. These include:
- Guess the Rice Weight contest
- Special display of Padi Pulut from Langkawi
- Dari Dapur BERNAS – an exclusive Nasi Goreng Dabai demonstration by Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, BERNAS Chairman, and Datuk Azman bin Mahmod, Director General Paddy and Rice Industry, in collaboration with Kedey Kamek.

MAHA 2024 Setting to Take Place in Middle of September
MAHA 2024 is set to take place from 11th to 22nd September at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS), Serdang. The BERNAS Pavilion is situated in Hall A, and the Galeri Padi, with its immersive room, is located at Laman Padi.
