The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) celebrated its 20th anniversary in style on 12 June 2025. Hosted under the theme “Celebrating the Past 20. Shaping the Next 20,” the reception welcomed industry leaders, partners, and clients for an evening of reflection and aspiration. Popular singer and actress Atilia Haron hosted the event, adding warmth and energy with live performances and stories that resonated with guests.
Honouring Two Decades of Impact
Since its opening in 2005, KLCC has hosted more than 22,000 events and received over 29 million visitors. Its contribution of RM12.6 billion to Malaysia’s economy cements its reputation as a cornerstone of the nation’s business events landscape. From international summits to cultural showcases, KLCC has proven its value as a venue that unites people, ideas, and opportunities.
Welcoming Global Icons and Leaders
KLCC is the only venue in Malaysia to have hosted multiple ASEAN Summits in 2005, 2015, and most recently in May 2025. Over the years, it has also welcomed global icons such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, former U.S. President Barack Obama, and football legend David Beckham, reinforcing its standing on the world stage.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Its People
General Manager John Burke, who took the helm in 2023, paid tribute to long-serving team members. “Some of our staff have been here from the very beginning and this anniversary is theirs too,” he said. Their dedication has been key to KLCC’s continued success and ability to adapt to changing industry demands.
Transforming with Innovation and Sustainability
KLCC’s success lies in its ability to evolve. The team has refurbished and redesigned event spaces to better serve hybrid and modern event formats. Burke added, “Client needs are changing, and we’re changing too.” KLCC now runs on green energy, composts 100% of food waste, and sources 70% of F&B locally, placing sustainability at the heart of its operations.
Launching KLCC Connects for the Future
To mark the 20th anniversary, KLCC launched KLCC Connects, a long-term initiative that brings together sustainability actions, industry collaboration, and community engagement. It aims to unite stakeholders from business events, hospitality, tertiary education, NGOs, and UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) to drive change.
Powered by Strong Partnerships
The Centre also acknowledged its partners and stakeholders, including KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd, Convex Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and the KLCC Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA). Support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), MyCEB, and associations like ICCA, UFI, AIPC, and PCMA has played a vital role in strengthening KLCC’s local and global presence.
Shaping the Next 20 Years
With its strong legacy and future-forward mindset, KLCC is well-positioned to remain Malaysia’s leading venue for global dialogue, business exchange, and cultural celebration. Its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity will define the next chapter of its journey.
