The MyJPJ app has quietly become one of the most useful apps on a Malaysian driver’s phone. From showing your digital driving licence at a roadblock to renewing road tax in a few taps, it saves trips to the JPJ counter and keeps important documents in your pocket.

In April 2026, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) said the app had more than 14 million users. Here is how to get the most out of the MyJPJ app.

What Is the MyJPJ App?

MyJPJ is the official mobile app of the Road Transport Department, available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery. It lets users check and renew driving licences, renew motor vehicle licences (road tax), check summonses and access other JPJ services online.

7 Smart Features Every Malaysian Driver Should Use

1. Your Digital Driving Licence

Since February 2023, Malaysians driving their own private vehicles no longer need to carry a physical driving licence or display a physical road tax sticker, as the digital versions in the app are accepted, as reported by SoyaCincau. Tap your profile to bring them up. Note that learner, vocational and foreign licence holders still need physical licences, while company-owned vehicles and vehicles registered to non-citizens still need to display physical road tax.

2. Renew Road Tax Without Queuing

You can renew your road tax directly in the MyJPJ app. Valid motor insurance is a prerequisite, as JPJ’s system links the two. Go to your profile, select Motor Vehicle Licence, choose the vehicle, tap renew, pick the duration and pay. Card, FPX online banking and selected e-wallet payments are accepted, with OTP verification.

3. Renew Your Driving Licence Online

Driving licence renewal has been available in the app since February 2024 for Malaysians. It is a simple way to avoid letting your licence lapse, and you can check its expiry date in the same place.

4. Share Road Tax With Family Members

If your spouse or children drive your car, you can share your digital road tax with another registered MyJPJ user for a set period. The owner enters the recipient’s IC number and chosen duration, and a security code is generated for the recipient to enter. Sharing can be revoked, and the registered owner remains responsible for valid road tax and insurance.

5. Check Summonses and Demerit Points

The app shows outstanding JPJ summonses, so you can settle them before they become a problem at renewal time. Checking your demerit points regularly is also a good reminder to drive safely.

6. Bid for Number Plates and Book Appointments

JPJeBid, for bidding on vehicle registration numbers, and JPJeQ, for booking counter appointments, have been combined into one platform within the app, according to The Star.

7. A 24-Hour Chatbot and Guest Mode

The latest version adds a 24-hour chatbot for general questions and a guest mode that lets you explore some features without logging in. The chatbot answers general queries, but for personal details such as your licence expiry, you will still need to sign in.

Logging In to the MyJPJ App With MyDigital ID

JPJ has made MyDigital ID, the government’s national digital identity, the main way to log in to the app. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said users will only need MyDigital ID as their primary authentication method to access the MyJPJ app. JPJ has encouraged all users aged 12 and above to register and activate their MyDigital ID. MyPR holders can continue using alternative login channels.

Quick Tips Before You Start

  • Keep your phone charged when driving, since the digital licence is only useful if your phone works.
  • Renew road tax and insurance early. You can usually renew up to two months before expiry.
  • Update the app regularly to get new features and security fixes.
  • Use only the official app from recognised app stores, and never share your login details or OTP.

Why It Matters

Digital services like MyJPJ save Malaysians time, cut down on paperwork and make it easier to stay on the right side of the law. A few minutes spent setting up the MyJPJ app now can save hours of queuing later. Planning a cross-border trip? See our guide to the RTS Link between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
