Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially introduced the new Golf R, bringing its most powerful production Golf to Malaysian roads.
Priced from RM337,790, the latest performance hatchback combines higher power output, updated digital technology and enhanced driving dynamics. Malaysia also remains the only country outside Germany to locally assemble the Golf R, with production taking place at Volkswagen’s plant in Pekan, Pahang.
More Power Under the Hood

At the heart of the new Golf R is a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine producing 333PS and 420Nm of torque.
Paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, the hatchback accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
The model also features R Performance Torque Vectoring technology, designed to improve handling and cornering performance by distributing power between the rear wheels.
Drivers can choose from several driving modes, including Comfort, Sport, Race, Drift and Individual settings.
Digital Features Take Centre Stage

Inside, Volkswagen has upgraded the Golf R with a more digital-focused cabin experience.
The vehicle comes equipped with a new 12.9-inch infotainment display powered by Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 operating system, offering faster responses and improved usability.
A 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and an upgraded voice assistant are also included.
For audio enthusiasts, the Golf R features a 480W Harman Kardon sound system with nine speakers, a 12-channel amplifier and subwoofer.
Sportier Design and Advanced Safety
The exterior receives a refreshed design with a new front bumper, illuminated Volkswagen logo and exclusive R styling elements.
Other highlights include Akrapovič titanium quad exhausts, 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and redesigned LED taillights.
On the safety front, the Golf R is equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Side Assist and Park Distance Control.
Malaysia’s Role in Volkswagen Production
Beyond the product launch, the Golf R also highlights Malaysia’s growing role in automotive manufacturing.
Volkswagen noted that Malaysia remains the only market outside Germany where the Golf R is assembled, reinforcing the country’s position within the brand’s regional production network.
As demand for performance vehicles and advanced automotive technologies continues to grow, the Golf R represents another example of how global automotive brands are bringing high-performance models and advanced manufacturing capabilities to Malaysia.
