Taobao Malaysia is bringing back its annual 618 Mid-Year Sale with a stronger focus on smarter spending, faster delivery, and AI-powered shopping features for local consumers.
Running from 21 May to 21 June 2026, the campaign introduces platform-wide discounts, shipping vouchers, and curated product selections aimed at helping Malaysians shop more confidently amid rising living costs.
Consumers Shift Towards Smarter Spending
As living costs continue to rise, Malaysian consumers are becoming more selective with their purchases. Instead of impulse buying, shoppers are now prioritising practical products that improve everyday life.
Items such as ergonomic home office furniture, multifunctional home essentials, comfortable fashion wear, and lifestyle products have seen growing interest among consumers balancing hybrid work and daily convenience.
According to Taobao Malaysia, buyers are now paying closer attention to product quality, seller trustworthiness, and customer reviews before making purchases.
Faster Shipping and Mid-Year Promotions
During the campaign period, users can enjoy discounts of up to 15% alongside exclusive vouchers and shipping offers.
Taobao is also increasing its shipping subsidies, including daily RMB12 air shipping vouchers available at 12PM with no minimum spend required. Deliveries to selected Malaysian cities can arrive in as fast as five days.
Other promotions include:
- RM68 off with minimum spend requirements
- Free shipping via selected channels
- RM15 off using promo code TB618WOW
- RM8 transaction fee waivers
RHB cardholders can also enjoy additional discounts and participate in exclusive rewards campaigns during the sale period.
AI Features Aim to Improve Shopping Experience

One of the biggest highlights this year is the rollout of Alibaba Group’s Qwen AI technology within the Taobao app.
The new AI shopping assistant helps users discover products, compare items, and receive personalised recommendations more efficiently. An “AI Try-On” feature also allows shoppers to visualise how clothing fits by uploading their own photos.
These features reflect how e-commerce platforms are increasingly integrating AI tools to create more personalised and convenient shopping experiences for consumers.
The Bigger Shift in Digital Shopping
The 618 Mid-Year Sale reflects a wider shift in consumer behaviour across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Shoppers are no longer only looking for cheaper products. They are also prioritising convenience, speed, and value-driven purchases.
For digital platforms like Taobao, combining promotions with technology and faster fulfilment is becoming increasingly important in attracting long-term customer trust and engagement.
