Did you know that your gut health could hold the key to your health, not just digesting food? In a move that could transform the future of health in Malaysia, Amway Malaysia and Monash University Malaysia have announced a three-year Master Research Agreement (MRA). The agreement is to explore how nutrition can transform gut health. In turn, this agreement may potentially reduce the risk of Malaysians developing chronic and long-term illnesses.
What is This Research All About?
This exciting collaboration will dive deep into how powerful nutrients works. For instance, like plant proteins, probiotics and fiber combinations, as well as other good-for-you ingredients. The good thing is that all of the nutrition can support a healthy gut and, in turn, improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and strengthen immunity.
Why focus on the gut? Because it is more than just your digestive system. The gut microbiome is a community of bacteria in your digestive system. It is now known to play a key role in everything from metabolism and immunity to even mood and mental health. With non-communicable diseases (NCDs) causing nearly 3 out of 4 early deaths in Malaysia and costing the country over RM64 billion in 2021 alone, it is clear that something needs to change.
A National Health Mission

Supported by Malaysia’s National Science, Technology & Innovation Policy (NSTIP), this project brings together Monash’s scientific research power with Amway’s decades of experience in nutrition. Together, they will test how different nutrient combinations can keep the gut strong and balanced. Eventually, the goal of the research is to create personalized wellness solutions tailored for Malaysians.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Chang Lih Kang. Both parties also shared their excitement about this bold step forward. As said by the General Manager of Amway Malaysia and Brunei,
“This MRA will enable advanced scientific testing and clinical insights to guide the development of future wellness solutions. By combining Monash University’s scientific expertise with Amway’s long-standing investment in nutrition and innovation, we are setting the foundation for research that can truly impact lives by developing solutions tailored to the Malaysian population’s gut microbiome and health profile.”

A Track Record of Global Health Innovation

The research team, led by Dr. Chong Chun Wei and Dr. Lim Wei Meng of Monash, will look at how plant-based proteins, probiotics, and phytonutrients work individually. Moreover, the nutrition is combined to protect gut health, improve nutrient absorption, and support the body’s metabolism.
Mind you, this is not Amway’s first venture into groundbreaking health research. The company has previously collaborated with world-renowned institutions like Stanford University in California on how lifestyle affects well-being. Besides, they also had collaborated with the National University of Singapore on studies around slowing down ageing at the cellular level.
Shaping the Future of Wellness

As Amway approaches its 50th anniversary in Malaysia, this partnership highlights its evolution into a purpose-driven and wellness-focused brand. In addition, they also aim to be the ones that is committed to empowering healthier and longer lives for all.
