With the push of the head coach, A. Arulselvaraj, Malaysia’s hockey team is ranked 10th in the world and 2nd in Asia by the International Hockey Federation. As you can see, our national teams are among the best and will always rise to be stronger.
First-Time Winning Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2022
Malaysia is writing a new history by finally winning the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in the year 2022. Our national men’s team defeated South Korea, one of the best teams in Asia with a 3-2 in the final making it the first time Malaysia ever won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup ever since the first Cup in 1983.
This is not Malaysia’s first time encountering South Korea’s team. Their last encounter was at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2022 round-robin stage which causes Malaysia to be defeated with 3-0.
Our national team has many times missed the opportunity to lift the Cup before this. Malaysia has always made to the finals and has been runner-up five times in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 1985, 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2014. This shows how thirsty they are to win the Cup.
However, this time, our Speedy Tigers rise from the loss and finally redeem themselves in the final stage.
Speedy Tigers Shooting Their Shots
They set the game on fire as our national player Shello Silverius shoot the first goal of Malaysia, leading the momentum of the game and the players. Our second goal was from our defender Razie Rahim and the third shoot was by Aminuddin Zain made the Malaysia team remain strong with its 3-1 but anxiety began to build up within the Malaysian players when South Korea score their second point.
However, with the lead of Najmi Farizal Jazlan, the Captain of the Malaysia men’s hockey team, the cooperation of the team and the thousands of fans cheering and supporting them in the stadium, Malaysia’s defence was impenetrable. Thus, this leads to Malaysia’s first time ever winning the Cup.
Congratulations Speedy Tigers
Not only do they finally lift the Cup, but congratulations to three of our speedy tigers for being honoured with titles after that nerve-wracking match.
Razie Rahim (17): Man of the Final and Top Scorer
Hafizuddin Othman (21): Best Goalkeeper
Shello Silverius (15): Player of the Tournament
Congratulations once again to our national men’s hockey team for making history and winning the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2022.
