Introducing The “AS I AM – Celebrating Differences” Campaign
In collaboration with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), 1 Utama has launched the “AS I AM – Celebrating Differences” campaign. This initiative is all about creating safe, comfortable spaces for those with sensory challenges. Located at the 2nd Floor Oval, this corner of the mall is a place where families can feel understood and supported while they shop.
A Safe Haven For Families: The Sensory Pod
We all know that feeling of helplessness when a child with autism spectrum disorder has a meltdown in public. As parents, it’s heart-wrenching to see your child struggling in a crowded space, especially when you wish some places catered to their needs.
1 Utama took this to heart, investing over a year into creating welcoming, thoughtful spaces like the Sensory Pod. It’s a cozy retreat that’s over 800 sq ft, divided into a playful Awan Play Space and a calming Owl Quiet Zone.

The As I Am campaign not only benefits autistic individuals but also their caregivers. It is a great initiative project to bridge the gap for the neurodivergent into their environment by allowing them to participate in activities and have a great shopping experience overall like everyone else.

Sensory Pod And Inclusive Play Opportunities
So, what can you find in the Sensory Pod? In the Play Space, kids can enjoy multi-sensory toys, noise-canceling headphones, and a cozy Reading Corner. Meanwhile, the Quiet Zone is perfect for snuggling in soft bean bags under twinkling lights, or chilling at the Chromotherapy Station while watching fishes swim.
The inclusive Playtime Kids playground accommodates all abilities, and dedicated sensory walls around the mall provide colorful spots for kids to explore and soothe their senses. Plus, there’s even a Sensory Kit with fidget toys and other goodies to help them chill out.
Easy Access To A Calming Escape: The ‘As I Am’ Membership
With digital membership, signing up for the ‘As I Am’ membership is designed to be easy. Fill out the online form on the 1 Utama website or the SuperApp on Google Play or App Store, upload proof of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and visit the Customer Service Centre to get your digital badge. Once you’re in, you can grab a unique QR code to access the Sensory Pod for a safe, hassle-free experience.
