Imagine living in a place where getting to the nearest clinic means hours of bumpy roads… Or even a riverboat ride. For many Sarawakians, that’s daily life, even until now. CelcomDigi and Hospital Pengajar Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (HPUNIMAS) have joined forces to rewrite that story.
Healthcare On The Move
Their newly launched MediRover and MediDoc stood as lifelines on wheels and screens. It brings healthcare right to people’s doorsteps. Officially unveiled in Kuching and graced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, these innovations mark a turning point in Sarawak’s healthcare journey.

MediRover is a full-fledged digital hospital on wheels. Using CelcomDigi’s powerful 5G and satellite connectivity, it connects rural patients to virtual doctors and AI-powered diagnostic tools in real time.
From blood pressure checks to specialist consultations, MediRover eliminates long-distance travel and wait times. It served over 30 locations and help 8,000 Sarawakians access medical care faster and more easily than ever before.
This is healthcare that doesn’t wait, it moves.
MediDoc: Empowering Rural Clinics With Smart Tools
While MediRover hits the road, MediDoc builds capacity right where it’s needed most, such as in rural clinics. Through its “Klinik Angkat” initiative, frontline healthcare workers in small communities can consult HPUNIMAS specialists instantly via telemedicine.
Equipped with portable imaging, wearable health monitors, and immersive training tools, MediDoc helps local clinics handle more complex cases without sending patients away. The result? Faster diagnoses, reduced travel, and stronger rural healthcare systems.
A Model For Malaysia’s Connected Healthcare Future

The collaboration between CelcomDigi, HPUNIMAS, and Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM) shows what happens when technology meets teamwork. Together, they’re building a digital health ecosystem that combines 5G, AI, and clinical research to reach every Malaysian.
Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the government is investing RM40 billion to reform healthcare. And by 2030, 60% of Malaysians are expected to have digital health records. The MediRover and MediDoc projects are living proof that this transformation is already underway.
As CelcomDigi’s Chief Innovation Officer, T. Kugan, put it:
“We’re closing the distance between patients and doctors, one 5G connection at a time.”
