What does happiness look like to a child? For over 160 underprivileged children in Malaysia, it looked like popcorn, laughter, and the excitement of watching A Minecraft Movie on the big screen. On 3 May 2025, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Malaysia, in partnership with McDonald’s Malaysia and TGV Cinemas, hosted its third annual Movie Day out, a heartwarming initiative to bring smiles and unforgettable moments to children from various orphanages.
Held at TGV Cinemas in Jaya Shopping Centre, the event catered to children from four organisations: Padmasambhava Children Loving Association Klang Selangor, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary K.L, PErtubuhan Kebajikan Ehsan Ash-Shakur, and Pertubuhan Pendidikan Anak-Anak Yatim Selangor. Beyond just a day at the movies, this event was filled with warmth, fun, and lasting memories for the children and their caretakers.
Creating More Than Just a Movie Experience

The initiative is more than a one-off activity. It is part of RMHC and McDonald’s Malaysia’s continuous effort to bring meaningful, joyful experiences to children who may rarely get to enjoy such treats. In addition to the movie screening, RMHC Malaysia Donated RM10,000 to the participating orphanages, showing ongoing support for their long-term welfare.
To make the day even more special, McDonald’s Malaysia treated the children to delicious meals after the show and celebrated the birthdays of those born in April and May, turning a regular day into a heartwarming celebration. This event also aligns with McDonald’s global collaboration with Warner Bros. Entertainment, featuring A Minecraft Movie as the 2025 highlight.
A Tradition of Smiles and Support

This is not the first time RMHC and McDonald’s Malaysia have come together to create joyful moments through film. In 2022, they hosted a screening of Minions: The Rise of Gru, and in 2024, it was Despicable Me 4. Through this ongoing collaboration with TGV Cinemas, over 360 children have experienced Movie Day Out events, each one filled with joy, laughter, and care.
“Moments like these remind us of the importance of creating meaningful experiences for children, especially those who may not often have access to them,” said Dato’ Haji Azmi Jaafar, President of RMHC Malaysia. “We are committed to supporting the well-being of underprivileged children, not just through our core programs, but through special initiatives like this that bring smiles and joy”.
RMHC’s Broader Mission of Care and Hope

While movie screening are memorable, RMHC Malaysia’s work goes much deeper. The charity runs four core programs designed to improve the lives of underprivileged children across Malaysia.
- Ronald McDonald House: A home away from home for families of hospitalized children
- Ronald McDonald Sensory Room: A safe space for children with sensory and developmental needs
- Gift of Smile: A program providing cleft lip and palate surgery to children in need.
- Back-to-School Pack Program: Supplies underprivileged students with essential school items.
For over 34 years, RMHC Malaysia has touched more than 250,000 lives through health, education, and welfare programs, with over RM60 million raised through coin-box donations and corporate support.
