Malaysian Institute of Estate Planners (MIEP) sponsored by UNEEDWILL, collaborated with Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO), Jabatan Ketua Pengarah Tanah dan Galian (JKPTG), and AmanahRaya launch the first ever Malaysia Wills Week 2022, starting 1 September until 9 September 2022.
Malaysia Wills Week 2022
Malaysia Wills Weeks 2022 is planned to be a yearly event, starting this year focusing on the importance of wills and wealth planning. With the theme: “If you were to leave the world today, what would you prepare for your family?”
This movement needs to be highlighted due to the reason that according to statistics, approximately only 28% of Malaysian workers have their wills documented pre-death. This has led to over RM19 billion assets remain unclaimed; frozen and can’t be processed. Plus, the Covid-19 pandemic has also become the catalyst urging this movement to be done, since more people realise that death can happen any time.
Mr. Gary Lee Tuck Wee, The Chairperson of MIEP at the launching said:
People do think that wills are prepared for those who are old, sick, rich, with a lot of assets. So, people like me who are not so old, not so rich, don’t have much assets, no need to do wills, or I can do it later, or I just leave it totally. For me this mindset is not right and this bad decision will affect my family.
Mr. Gary Lee Tuck Wee, The Chairperson of MIEP

Future Planning
Malaysia Wills Week 2022 is a great initiative taken by MIEP, together with organisations mentioned above, in educating the public on the importance of wills.
Mr. See Kok Loong, President of MIEP in his speech stated that in the upcoming Malaysia Wills Week, they’re planning to focus more on Islamic Estate Planning namely hibah, faraid, and wasiat. It is to give better exposure on this topic specifically for Muslims as this country has a majority population of Muslims citizens.
