KLCC Secures Green Building Index Certification, Setting New Sustainability Benchmark

Sustainability just took center stage at KLCC! The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) has officially earned the Green Building Index (GBI) certification under the Existing Building category. This proves that even a 20-year-old venue can go green in a big way! With a BEI 4-star rating, KLCC has cut 5,478 tonnes of CO2 emissions—that’s like saving 333,970 trees!

GBI certification isn’t handed out easily as it takes innovation, investment, and serious commitment. KLCC underwent major infrastructure upgrades to boost energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, water efficiency and innovation, and more. John Burke, General Manager of KLCC proudly shared:

KLCC’s green efforts include 100% food waste diversion and a shift to renewable energy under the Green Energy Tariff Programme. This initiative contributes to the Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) goals with a 41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, far exceeding initial targets by 2025.

Additionally, KLCC recently earned ISO 41001:2018 Facility Management certification, further proving its commitment to operational excellence and sustainable business practices.
