The IDEA Science Fair 2026, themed “Sustainovation for a Greener Nation,” is set to take place on 11–12 April 2026 at the Dewan Utama, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus, Nibong Tebal. This highly anticipated event brings together students, innovators, industry partners, and the public in a celebration of science, technology, and sustainability.
With an expected turnout of over 1,000 participants, the fair serves as a dynamic platform for showcasing innovative ideas that address real-world environmental challenges. From sustainable materials to smart engineering solutions, the event highlights how science and technology can contribute to building a greener and more resilient future.
A Showcase of Innovation and Engineering Talent
One of the key highlights of the fair is the RoboQuest Competition 2026, an autonomous robotics challenge that invites Malaysian tertiary students to build, code, and compete. Limited to 20 teams, participants will design and program robots to complete specific tasks within a competitive setting, demonstrating both technical expertise and creativity.
In addition to the competition, the fair will feature a wide range of student-led exhibitions and project displays, offering visitors a glimpse into cutting-edge ideas and practical solutions developed by young innovators.
Interactive Learning Through Mini Games
IDEA Science Fair 2026 goes beyond traditional exhibitions by incorporating engaging and educational mini games. Activities such as the Carbon Capture Challenge and Green Tower Builder allow participants to experience engineering concepts in a fun and interactive way.
The Carbon Capture Challenge introduces players to the concept of carbon capture, transport, and storage (CCS) through a hands-on simulation, while the Green Tower Builder tests participants’ ability to construct stable structures using recyclable materials under time constraints. These activities are designed to make complex scientific ideas accessible and enjoyable for all ages.
Bridging Academia and Industry
The event is supported by a range of industry sponsors, including well-known companies such as Hotayi, Bosch, Greatech and other technology-driven organisations. Their involvement highlights the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in driving innovation and preparing students for real-world challenges.
