Laundry capsules or pods are without a doubt highly convenient, but are they always the ideal option for your clothing? If so, how are they to be used properly?
What Is A Laundry Capsule?
A laundry capsule contains concentrated liquid detergent (and occasionally powdered additives), softener and other laundry products that are separated by inner chambers inside the capsule.
In addition to being pre-measured to the right amount, it is water soluble, convenient and simple to use. Alternative names of laundry capsules are laundry pods, liquitabs or packs.
It will entirely dissolve in the wash as long as you follow the instructions on the package properly, and an added bonus is that the packaging they come in is typically recyclable!
Are Capsules Bad For Washing Machines?
They shouldn’t harm your washing machine if you follow the instructions on the pack and make sure to set the correct wash temperature to properly dissolve the pods!
How Can You Always Use Them Effectively?
- Put the capsule in an empty washing machine drum – Whether you use a top or a front loader, be sure to load the pod first before the clothing. The pod might not dissolve completely if it is placed on top of clothes.
- Always use the capsule with dry hands – Moisture on the hands will cause it to dissolve.
- Don’t overload the machine – To dissolve completely, the detergent capsules require space to move around.
- Apply proper temperature – The best temperature should be determined by checking the packaging of the detergent capsules as well as the care labels on the items you are washing.
What Happens To The Plastic Of The Capsules?
The outer covering of a laundry capsule is made from a water-soluble polymer, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). If used properly, it will dissolve entirely in water.
There’s no need to cut or tear one open before popping it in the washing machine.
How Many Laundry Capsules Should You Use?
One detergent pod is all you need to wash a typical load of clothes (about 7 kg).
But, if your washing machine has an extra-large capacity and can carry more than 10 kg of clothes (and you’ve loaded it entirely), you might need to use two pods.
How Should Laundry Pods Be Stored Safely?
The bright and colourful nature of laundry capsules makes them appealing for kids. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep them safely by doing the following:
- Keep the container in a secure location – out of the reach of children & pets, place it on a high shelf or lockable cupboard
- After each usage, close the container – remember to close the lid after using the capsule container, put it back in its secure storage location
What To Do If Residue Is Found On Clothing?
However, on a rare occasion, if the capsule is not able to dissolve properly, leaving residue stains on your clothes, rewash the clothes immediately but use only the water in the washing machine, no pods or other detergent.
You should rinse the residue out of the fabric before tumble-drying, which is drying washed clothes by spinning them in hot air inside a dryer!
