Business travel is changing as more employees face disruptions, safety concerns, and higher expectations for support. A new report by Zurich, Business Travel Outlook 2026, shows that companies may need to rethink how they protect and support their travelling workforce.
The study highlights how travel risks are becoming more common, shaping how employees view both business travel and their employers.
Disruptions Becoming More Common
According to the report, 80% of business travellers experienced at least one disruption in 2025. More than half also faced an incident or emergency during their trips.
These issues go beyond delays, with some travellers facing natural disasters, security risks, or unexpected situations while abroad.
Growing Safety Concerns Among Travellers

The report also shows that 43% of travellers feel less safe when travelling for work compared to before. Many believe companies need to do more to support them.
In fact, 58% of respondents said their employers could improve safety measures, while 60% said they would consider leaving their job if safety is not taken seriously.
Younger Travellers Face More Challenges
Younger employees, especially Gen Z, are feeling the pressure more. Many are less confident in handling emergencies and more concerned about mental wellbeing while travelling.
At the same time, younger workers are more likely to combine business and leisure travel, which can create new challenges if proper support is not in place.
A Shift in Business Travel Expectations

With 81% of travellers planning to mix work and leisure trips in 2026, companies are being pushed to adapt.
This means providing clearer guidance, better preparation, and stronger support systems that match how people travel today.
Why It Matters
As business travel continues to evolve, companies that invest in employee safety and wellbeing can build stronger trust and retain talent.
At the same time, better travel planning and support can help employees stay focused and productive while on the move.
