First-of-its-kind upgrade enhances transparency and simplifies ride experience across Malaysia
Bolt, Europe’s leading mobility platform, has introduced a groundbreaking update in Malaysia’s ride-hailing industry: full toll fare integration into its ride pricing. This industry-first innovation ensures a transparent and seamless fare experience for passengers and partner drivers nationwide.
Until now, toll charges in ride-hailing were often added manually or post-trip, creating confusion and delays. With this integration, Bolt becomes the first platform in Malaysia to offer fully automated toll calculation upfront, simplifying the process for everyone on the road.
Addressing a Longstanding Ride-Hailing Challenge
Malaysia has nearly 200 tolls with varying systems, open, closed, and mixed. For years, these posed a challenge in fare transparency and driver operations. Bolt’s new feature addresses this by displaying all toll charges in the total fare before passengers confirm a ride.
For drivers, tolls are now auto calculated and directly included in the trip earnings, removing the hassle of manual tracking and fare disputes. This empowers drivers to focus on service quality and efficiency while ensuring they’re fairly compensated.
Built on Local Insight, Driven by Innovation

“This toll fare integration reflects our deep understanding of the real-world challenges Malaysian drivers and passengers face,” said Afzan Lutfi, General Manager of Bolt Malaysia. “Tolls are part of everyday travel here. By automating their calculation, we eliminate the guesswork and make ride-hailing more trustworthy and convenient.”
Currently, about 30% of Bolt trips in Malaysia involve at least one toll, making this upgrade a timely and impactful improvement. Bolt’s commitment to innovation aims to deliver greater reliability, fairness, and smarter mobility solutions to cities across the country.
Positive Feedback from the Bolt Community
This feature has already proven popular among partner drivers. “Before this, keeping track of tolls during peak hours was a headache. Now it’s all clear and saves time,” said Rahimah Ismail, a Bolt driver in the Klang Valley.
At recent Open House engagement with drivers, Bolt also announced additional improvements on the horizon like smarter pick-up distance management and easier access to driver earnings. These upgrades are based on direct feedback from drivers, reinforcing Bolt’s people-first approach to platform development.
Paving the Way for Smarter Urban Mobility

Bolt’s toll integration is part of its broader vision to build cities for people, not cars. Through constant innovation, Bolt continues to break down everyday barriers in urban transport while providing better experiences and earning potential for drivers.
As ride-hailing expectations evolve, Bolt leads the charge in creating efficient, transparent, and meaningful travel experiences for Malaysians redefining how we move through our cities.
