Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s unit MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd (Astro) and Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) have announced a collaboration today to deliver a high-quality digital experience to Malaysians. The collaboration will feature the provision of broadband and content services by Astro.
In a joint statement released today, the companies said the collaboration signifies both companies commitment to support the “Jalinan Digital Negara” (JENDELA) initiative. They are committed to providing a wider broadband coverage and a better experience nationwide.
TM to provide Astro with its infrastructure and connectivity solutions
The collaboration will see TM WHOLESALE, TM’s global and wholesale business arm providing Astro with a full suite of infrastructure and connectivity solutions. It comprises a whole range of wholesale services including:
- High-speed broadband (HSBB)
- Bandwidth
- Backhaul
- Internet access
The extensively robust fibre network infrastructure will enable both companies to provide reliable connectivity to their end-users.
On top of that, TM will also provide Astro with its newly developed content platform service, Content Delivery Network (TM CDN). The service can deliver seamless, faster and secure digital content, allowing Astro to enhance its video streaming efficiency.
This strategic partnership with TM lays the foundation for Astro to be an internet service provider.
– Astro Chief Executive Officer, Henry Tan
According to Henry, Astro’s goal is to provide Malaysians with the best digital experience and broadband value proposition. With TM’s wide HSBB network, Astro will be able to realise new revenue streams, scaling its broadband service with content bundles, or standalone broadband as well as other product lines.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Astro and TM have collaborated. Both companies have signed a major deal back in 2013.
The deal brought Astro’s contents to TM’s HyppTV which lasts until 2016.
