Since the GEL-Kayano™ 5 OG “Nasi Lemak” (2019) and GEL-LYTE™ III “Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers” (2020) were a success, ASICS X SneakerLAH X HUNDRED% has officially launched their newest addition; ASICS GEL-LYTE™ III “Teh Tarik”!

ASICS X SneakerLAH X HUNDRED%: GEL-LYTE™ III “Teh Tarik”

For this year, ASICS Malaysia showcast yet another locally inspired sneaker, honouring the Malaysian roots. The concept highlighted was inspired by Malaysia’s most significant drink, Teh Tarik or “pulled tea”.

The Teh Tarik is a national drink that draws Malaysians together from all walks of life, connecting people from different races, cultures, and religion. Available at any time of the day, this popular drink is made by continuously pouring (or “pulling”) a strong, hot tea mixture blended with sweet and creamy condensed milk between two cups or mugs until it becomes a thick, frothy tea heaven. The milk tea is “pulled” in a theatrical display to aerate as well as enhance the deep flavours of the tea, which served as our inspiration in the overall design for this unique masterpiece. With the GEL-LYTE™ III “Teh Tarik”, we hope to share Malaysia’s multicultural diversity with the rest of the world, an icon that bridges the gap across generations.

Teh Tarik Inspired Concept

Teh Tarik is a popular beverage among Malaysians, made from a strong brew of black tea blended well with condensed milk. The best way to enjoy this is at mamak stalls, restaurants, and kopitiam around the country.

For GEL-LYTE™ III “Teh Tarik”, the colourway draws inspiration from the national drink, with striking caramel suede to resemble the shades of milk tea. It also features interchangeable eye-catching stripes that mimic the splashes made by the process of pulling tea. Basically, you can choose to have the stripes on your shoes or not, depending on your outfit. What a great concept!

Plus, the speakles and imprints on the insole display the stain left behind the glass of Teh Tarik, while the translucent sole mirrors the gleaming surface of the tables usually found in the mamaks or kopitiams.
