Sarawak is preparing to reach new heights. A groundbreaking joint venture between Aviation Design Centre Sdn Bhd and CENTEXS (Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak) will bring an Aerospace Academy to East Malaysia. The partnership, announced at LIMA 2025 in Langkawi, signals a major investment in youth development, technical education, and Malaysia’s aerospace future.
Sarawak’s First-Ever Aerospace Academy is Taking Off
The new Aerospace Academy Sarawak Sdn Bhd will focus on two high-demand areas: aerospace manufacturing and Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) training. This initiative aims to become a top training centre for East Malaysia, and eventually, the entire country.
Through this academy, the collaboration blends industry know-how from Aviation Design Centre, an associate of National Aerospace & Defence Industries (NADI), with CENTEXS’s proven expertise in technology education and workforce training. As a result, students will receive hands-on learning aligned with international aerospace standards.
Training Has Already Begun and It’s Just the Beginning

Although the official announcement was made recently, training is already underway. Since November 2024, nearly 100 youths have started their journey at Lundu and Subang campuses. Now, the newly established Aerospace Academy Sarawak will expand this program significantly.
Students will gain future-ready technical skills, preparing them for careers in Malaysia’s growing aerospace ecosystem. Courses will be tailored to industry needs, ensuring graduates are job-ready the moment they complete their training.
Furthermore, this move supports Malaysia’s national goals of boosting talent in high-value sectors and building a resilient, innovation-driven economy.
Strategic Support for Sarawak and the Nation
During the handover of the Certificate of Incorporation, leaders from both organisations expressed their shared vision.
En Ezry Bakar Ahmad, Managing Director of Aviation Design Centre, noted that the partnership will help position Malaysia and Sarawak as aerospace talent hubs in the region.
Meanwhile, Dato’ Haji Syed Mohd Hussein bin Wan Abdul Rahman, CEO of CENTEXS, added that the Aerospace Academy will create more opportunities for local youth to enter high-tech, high-paying industries.
Both leaders highlighted how this joint venture reflects Malaysia’s commitment to education, technology, and economic diversification.
A Blueprint for Malaysia’s Aerospace Future

This project doesn’t just benefit Sarawak. It creates a scalable model for technical training and industry collaboration that can be replicated nationwide. If the academy proves successful, similar setups could launch in other states to support Malaysia’s wider aerospace ambitions.
Moreover, the Aerospace Academy aligns with Sarawak’s digital and industrial transformation agendas, helping the state evolve into a hub for technical talent, innovation, and global-standard training.
As Malaysia continues to build its aerospace infrastructure, investments in human capital like this academy are essential. Skilled local workers will play a central role in supporting manufacturing, MRO operations, and future aviation technologies.
Final Approach: A High-Flying Opportunity for Malaysian Youth

The Aerospace Academy Sarawak represents more than a new school it’s a vision for the future. It opens doors for youth to join a thriving, global industry, while advancing Malaysia’s role in the regional aerospace market.
