When a community chooses to walk together, it sends a powerful message. The one that goes beyond footsteps and finish lines. This April, that message is simple yet profound: inclusion matters. And Taarana’s Walk for Autism is once again turning awareness into action.
In conjunction with Autism Awareness Month, Taarana is bringing back its much-anticipated annual community event, inviting Malaysians from all walks of life to stand (and walk) in solidarity with individuals on the autism spectrum.
Now in its third year, Taarana’s Walk for Autism continues to build momentum as more families, educators, advocates and members of the public rally behind a shared cause: building understanding, acceptance and a more inclusive society.

Organised by Taarana, an award-winning special education needs centre established by the RYTHM Foundation, the walk is not just symbolic. It reflects a long-term commitment to community education, empowerment and inclusive support for individuals with autism.
Raising Awareness Through Collective Action
Autism affects individuals in diverse and unique ways. While public awareness has improved in recent years, misconceptions and social stigma still linger. That’s precisely where Taarana’s Walk for Autism steps in, bridging awareness with meaningful engagement.
Participants can expect more than just a casual stroll. The event promises a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere designed to be accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities. Informational booths, engaging activities, and opportunities to connect with therapy providers and advocacy resources will also be part of the experience.
Dr Sunitha Sivakumaran, Principal of Taarana, emphasised the importance of unity: when a community walks together, it creates a safe and joyful space where families can connect and feel supported.
For many parents and caregivers, events like this help ease feelings of isolation. They serve as a reminder that they are part of a larger support network, one that sees, values and respects every individual on the spectrum.
A Platform For Connection

Inclusion does not begin and end with awareness campaigns. It requires sustained effort, conversations and collective responsibility. That’s why Taarana’s Walk for Autism goes beyond raising funds or visibility, it fosters empathy and builds bridges between communities.
The event creates a shared space where students, corporate teams, advocacy groups and families can interact meaningfully. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn and strengthen bonds in an inclusive environment.
Each participant, whether walking alone or in a group, contributes to breaking down barriers and challenging social stigmas. In essence, every step taken symbolises progress toward a society where individuals on the autism spectrum are recognised for their strengths and potential.
