Books were no longer quiet companions on shelves. That night, they became the stars of the show. Malam Kota Buku 2025 transformed the publishing industry into a national conversation. It gathered nearly 1,000 industry players under one roof to celebrate stories, strategy, and the future of reading in Malaysia. The event marked a turning point in how the nation views literacy and access to knowledge.
A National Night For The Book Ecosystem
Organised by Perbadanan Kota Buku (PKB), Malam Kota Buku 2025 positioned itself as the publishing industry’s most inclusive and prestigious annual gathering. Held on 19 December 2025, the gala brought together publishers, educators, reading communities, schools, and strategic partners from across the country.
At its core, the event aimed to strengthen Malaysia’s national book ecosystem. This is while advancing a culture of reading aligned with the Malaysia MADANI vision. The evening featured the Kota Buku Awards, recognition of key contributors across the book value chain, and strategic insights into the future direction of the industry. This reinforces PKB’s role as a central driver of literacy and creative economy growth.
Ministerial Endorsement And A Clear Reading Agenda

Minister of Education, YB Fadhlina Sidek, described Malam Kota Buku 2025 as a step towards shaping Malaysia into a nation of readers. Her keynote address elevated the gala from celebration to policy significance. This frames it as a national platform that both honours books and maps the industry’s future.
She also acknowledged PKB’s expanding role beyond physical programmes. This then highlights its ability to build structured, transparent, and effective digital infrastructure that ensures access to knowledge regardless of geography.
Awards That Recognise Inclusion

Recognition at Malam Kota Buku 2025 extended across the entire publishing ecosystem. Among the key highlights were the Kota Buku Awards for outstanding industry players and the Mini Kota Buku initiatives.
One of the most notable accolades was the VIP Buyers Award 2025, which honours schools that strategically utilise the School Per Capita Grant through PKB’s Book Capital digital platform. Sekolah Kebangsaan Inarad from Sabah emerged as the champion, recognised for its proactive and effective approach to acquiring reading materials. This demonstrates how digital solutions can empower rural education communities.
Digital Infrastructure Powering The Future Of Reading
PKB’s digital-first strategy took centre stage during the event, particularly through the success of its Book Capital platform. Recognised by ASEAN Records as the “First Unified Digital Book City Platform,” Book Capital also achieved a milestone as the fastest-growing platform of its kind, reaching one million users within just 10 months.
The ASEAN Records certificate, presented to the Minister of Education on PKB’s behalf, underscored Malaysia’s growing influence in regional digital reading infrastructure and validated PKB’s capability to operate at ASEAN standards.
A National Commitment
Malam Kota Buku 2025 was not merely an industry celebration. Through recognition, policy alignment, and digital innovation, PKB reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready publishing ecosystem. As Malaysia continues its journey towards becoming a knowledge-driven nation, this landmark evening proved that the future of reading is not only alive but thriving.
