Zulkiflee Mawan, the man who traded his banker’s suit for an apron has found a sheer joy in baking. The former Bank Negara employee who had made a breakthrough in the cake business is a testament to “hard work and perseverance can triumph!”

Zulkiflee Mawan had to start his baking business from scratch after leaving his 27 years of banking job behind to start his cake business! He even traveled to many countries to learn the skills he needed.
According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), he recalled having second thoughts about spending a lot of money and driving to Singapore without knowing what he was about to get into, but ended up being the best decision.
He said:
During that journey, I asked myself whether it was worth it to pay RM4,000 and not know what you’re getting. Luckily enough, that was the turning point for me.

Zulkiflee reflected his journey from banker to baker was only dropping a letter, but the transition from the world of finance to the artistry of baking wasn’t a smooth one. Back when his business was new, he had to compete with bigger and more established businesses.
His initial steps were marked by challenges, doubts, and a fair share of skeptics. Yet, fueled by his love for baking, Zulkiflee powered through the obstacles. He focused on wedding cakes with extravagant decorations using fondants and sugar flowers to make sure his cakes stand out!
